How to Speak Better American English Article 2

How to speak American English.

I’ve been studying American English for a while now. I’ve done my homework and learned a lot about the language, but I want to share my knowledge with you. This is a collection of tips I’ve learned through years of study.

STEP 1: Learn How to Say It

One of the biggest mistakes people make when learning American English is they think they know how to say it, but they don’t. You need to learn how to say it properly.

Don’t worry if you don’t know all the words yet. You don’t need to know them all. Just learn how to use them.

STEP 2: Practice, Practice, Practice

Once you learn the basics, you’ll start to notice the words you struggle with. Once you find them, start practicing.

Here’s an exercise that will help you learn more about the structure of American English.

Say each word as you think about it, and write down what you think it means. Don’t worry if you think something wrong; just write down what comes to mind.

Once you finish this exercise, go back and review it. Look for patterns in the words. Are some of the words used in a specific order? If so, you’ll need to practice saying it in that order.

STEP 3: Speak to People

One of the best ways to learn how to speak American English is to talk to people. You need to hear how people say the words.

If you’re in a class, have a conversation with a native speaker. If you’re not in class, record yourself talking and listen to it later.

After you’ve heard the word from different people, see if you can identify the word. Once you’re sure you understand the meaning of the word, say it the way a native speaker does.

STEP 4: Use the Right Word

American English is much more complex than other languages, and there are a lot of words that don’t exist in other languages. You need to know the correct words to use.

The best way to learn this is to read books written by native speakers. Try to avoid using online resources, because they’ll probably just give you the right word without explaining why it’s the right word.

STEP 5: Make Sure You Understand the Meaning

It’s important to make sure you understand the meaning of the words you use. This is particularly important for colloquial words that are used differently depending on the context.

To help you understand the meaning, here are some questions you can ask.

Does the word have a similar meaning to the word I’m looking for?

Does the word mean the same thing as the word I’m trying to use?

Is the word used differently depending on the person speaking?

STEP 6: Know When to Stop

You need to know when to stop. There’s nothing wrong with adding a little bit more to your vocabulary, but it’s important to know when you’re going over the top.

If you’re feeling frustrated, try a different strategy
