Working with others can be hard. It can also be super rewarding, but it’s often misunderstood and can leave you feeling frustrated.
Here are some tips for working with others that can help keep you from getting burned out or from being misunderstood.
STEP 1: Set Boundaries
As a freelancer or remote worker, you need to set boundaries. This can mean saying no to things that are outside your job description or giving up time that you could be spending with your family.
Don’t feel guilty about setting boundaries. Some things are just too important to take on, and sometimes it’s better to say no and focus on something that’s really important to you.
STEP 2: Stay Calm
It’s easy to get stressed out when working with others. While working with a client, you might be upset because they don’t want to pay you a certain amount. Or maybe you’re working on a big project and they haven’t responded to your emails.
Try to stay calm. It’s not worth getting angry over a misunderstanding. Instead, try to explain what happened and why you think they might not have understood you correctly.
STEP 3: Be Honest
Honesty is the best policy, especially when you’re dealing with others. This doesn’t mean being dishonest, but it does mean telling people how you feel, what you’re struggling with and what you need.
If you’re working on a project, share that with your team and your client. Don’t hide problems or problems that you’re struggling with.
