How to Be Successful in School Article 4

As a high school student, it can be hard to keep up with all of your homework, assignments, tests and extracurricular activities.

But even though high school can be stressful, it can also be the most fun and rewarding time of your life.

There are a number of different ways that you can stay on top of things in school. Here are a few suggestions for helping you manage your workload.

STEP 1: Set Priorities

Set yourself up for success by making sure you have a schedule that helps you focus on the most important tasks.

Your priorities need to be:

Study

Homework

Test prep

Extra Credit

Extracurriculars

Step 2: Write Down Your To-Do List

To help you stay organized, make sure you write down everything that you need to do. It can be helpful to separate your to-do list into 3 categories:

Homework

Assignments

Classwork

If you find that you’re constantly forgetting something, it can help to put a sticky note on the back of your notebook.

STEP 3: Stay Organized

One of the biggest mistakes that students make is not staying organized. Whether it’s because of lack of time or simply poor planning, students often end up with a huge pile of assignments and deadlines stacked up on their desks.

A big part of being organized is staying on top of your schedule. Make sure that you use a calendar and a planner to schedule assignments and homework. Also make sure to review your schedule at least once per week.

STEP 4: Don’t Procrastinate

Procrastination is a common problem for students. It’s easy to procrastinate when you don’t have a deadline looming, but it’s even easier when there’s a deadline to procrastinate against.

It’s always better to take action right away than to wait until the last minute. It’s much harder to come up with a solution when you’re staring at a blank page or an unfinished assignment.

STEP 5: Schedule Time for Study

One of the keys to success in school is making sure that you have time to study. This means that you need to schedule time to study before each test or assignment.

Also, be sure to schedule some time for studying after school and on the weekends. This way you’ll be able to review and learn from your mistakes.

STEP 6: Stay Focused

There are a variety of different distractions that can prevent you from getting things done. Here are a few of the most common:

TV

Social media

Video games

Movies

STEP 7: Learn to Say No

The most effective way to stay focused is to learn how to say no. If you don’t learn how to say no, you’ll end up overcommitting yourself and burning out.

Also, try to set aside a specific time for social media. If you can’t say no to your friends, you won’t be able to say no to your homework.

STEP 8: Make Friends Who Support You

If you want to get things done, you’ll need to have friends who support you. Make sure that you spend time with your friends who are good at getting things done.

If you don’t have any friends who are good at getting things done, you might want to consider finding some.

STEP 9: Reward Yourself for Success

Reward yourself for doing well. It’s easy to get discouraged when you don’t see results. By rewarding yourself for success, you can help keep yourself motivated.

Here are some ideas for rewards:

Pizza

Toys

A trip to the movies

Getting your hair cut
