People are drawn to people who are similar to them. It’s a basic human trait, but it also makes us feel comfortable and accepted.
We all need to make new friends. Sometimes we go through a phase where we try to find a new group of friends, but for most people it’s a lifelong quest.
Here are some ways to make friends and meet new people.
STEP 1: Find Something to Do
This is the most obvious thing to do, but sometimes people overlook it.
Find something to do that you’re interested in. This could be anything from a hobby or sports team to volunteering or playing an instrument.
If you want to start learning about a specific topic, volunteer to teach a class or start a group.
You’ll have more fun if you’re doing something you enjoy. You’ll make more friends if you’re having fun.
STEP 2: Create New Friendships
If you do something that you enjoy, you’re likely to meet more people who share your interests.
Go to events that are near your location, join a book club, play a game, attend a party or anything else that you think might bring you into contact with other people.
Just remember that you can’t force yourself to make friends. You have to be interested in making friends.
STEP 3: Be a Friend
The easiest way to become friends with someone is to be a friend first. You don’t have to be their best friend, but you do need to be friendly and show interest in them.
Be genuine and let them know what you like. If you don’t know what to say, just be honest.
It will make you look more attractive to them and they’ll be more likely to want to be your friend.
STEP 4: Ask People Out
There’s a big difference between asking someone out and being asked out.
If you ask someone out, they will generally say yes.
If someone asks you out, you may not say yes.
If you’re going on a date with someone, you need to ask them out. Otherwise it’s assumed that you’re not interested.
Ask them to coffee, ask them to dinner, ask them on a hike or ask them to a party. You don’t have to ask them to do anything special.
The most important thing is that you ask them to do something.
